There is yet another push in Congress to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act. But make no mistake, the bill up for consideration, called Graham-Cassidy, is no compromise – it shares all the flaws of earlier bills and in many cases, is even more harmful. It dramatically cuts Medicaid; guts protections for people with pre-existing conditions; and ends the ACA’s tax credits that help people afford health insurance through the individual market. You can read more from the Minnesota Budget Project here.
The impact on Minnesota’s state budget would be staggering; beyond health care, it puts many other critical public services we all care about at risk.
The good news is, while a Senate vote on Graham-Cassidy is likely next week, it does not appear that the proponents have yet secured the votes needed for its passage.
